Hey so I thought new year and I realised I haven't explained my nut allergy how or why I got it. Issues that concern me and being at university with a nut allergy so here goes!
I have suffered from asthma, exzema and hayfaver and other allergies from a young age! When I was little I couldn't drink regular milk due to having serious exzema which made it worse so had to drink soya milk. Also discovering I was allergic to animal hair, grass, dust and pollen.
So I basically from a young age about 5 years old I would eat peanuts and my throat would have a funny taste! Kind of like mentally. So my mum automatically assumed I had some sort of intolerance to nuts peanuts so I wasn't fed nuts or peanuts that often. But I clearly remember eating them and being okay... When I was 9 I ate a chocolate that was next to a peanut in a packet of nuts chocolates and raisans. My lips and throat started to swell up and I had to be rushed to hospital. After that I was given an epi pen and sent for further allergy tests!
I found out I was allergic to animal hair, dust , grass, pollen, tree nuts, peanuts and mixed nuts.
Recently I have discovered I am allergic to cherries and sweet corn !
Allergies run in my family with my mum, dad and both sides of the family suffering from that!
I basically have this nut allergy due to some research I did because either of two things... I drank soya as a baby which puts your risk up of developing a nut allergy and also I was given exzema cream that ha subsequently seen many people develop nut allergies!
If you want to share your peanut allergy allergy stories then please do ..
Hopefully I can help people find more foods and try and live a nut free lifestyle but its really difficult especially at uni to remove yourself totally from that environment! Nuts are In a lot of things!
Lots of love
Hollie
Xx
Happy eating !
